Increase biodiversity

Plants will give your local area a double boost of biodiversity. In addition to the plants themselves, they will attract and feed bees, butterflies and birds—outdoors only, we hope! With green spaces shrinking in our towns and cities, the need to plant more leafy havens and pollen pitstops has never been greater.

2. Prevent water wastage

The cascading watering system eliminates the need for daily watering and prevents water wastage. Each PlantBox has a water level indicator to show exactly how thirsty plants are, eliminating over- and under-watering. The water reservoir holds 1.8 litres of water. That’s enough for 1 to 2 weeks, depending on location, weather and plant thirst. Plants draw up water as they need it through the inner wicking-felt lining, which prevents the roots from becoming waterlogged. So you can say goodbye to all your watering woes!

https://growingrevolution.a1.bc-staging.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/10-Easy-Ways-to-Become-an-Eco-friendly-Gardener-with-PlantBox-prevent-water-wastage.mp4

3. Made from 100% recycled materials

PlantBox is made in the UK from 100% recycled materials. The mould used to create PlantBox is specially designed to make two PlantBoxes simultaneously. This reduces the carbon footprint by over 75% compared to other plastic moulds. In our effort to minimise the impact of shipping we designed PlantBox to nestle inside each other when transported. The carbon footprint is further reduced for orders within the UK as there are no air miles. When it comes to packaging, we use 100% recycled cardboard and potato starch bags to hold the small bits, avoiding single-use plastic and wasteful padding.

4. Plant for pollinators

You can support your local populations of bees, butterflies and other pollinators by planting pollen-rich flowers. These supply our super-important friends with essential food and shelter in the urban wastelands of our cities. Pollinators also love fruits, veggies and herbs. But don’t worry they won’t steal your food—they prefer to snack on the flowers for nectar!

5. 1% of PlantBox sales is pledged to 1% For The Planet

We pledge 1% of PlantBox sales to 1% For The Planet, a global organisation that supports non-profits who are tackling our most pressing environmental issues. Go peat-free

Peat-based compost is harmful to the environment, so if you don’t already make your own compost at home then make sure you buy peat-free compost from your garden centre. Peatlands, aside from being an important habitat for plants and wildlife, absorb and store colossal amounts of carbon—twice as much as all the world’s forests! When peat is extracted, the carbon is released into the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming. Peatlands are also important water stores, holding about 10% of global freshwater, but are incredibly slow to form at a rate of 1mm per year.

For a more eco-friendly garden, we recommend using ordinary, multi-purpose compost, but there are plenty of other alternatives such as wood fibre, bark and coir (coconut fibre).

7. By going native, you will encourage local wildlife by providing valuable habitats and a source of food. The news gets even better for new gardeners: Native plants are often easy to grow and can be more resistant to pests and diseases. They also require less chemicals, which brings us nicely onto our final point.

*A native plant is one that occurs naturally in the region in which it evolved.

10.
